Join us for the opportunity to meet one of the foremost conflict journalists working today, Eros Hoagland, as he screens and discusses segments of his HBO documentary series installment, Witness: Juarez and other works. Juarez features graphic behind the scenes glimpses of Mr. Hoagland's multi-media journey behind the shroud of Mexican drug violence in the border town of Juarez. Mike Hale of the New York Times says, ' "Witness: Juarez" . . . is the visual equivalent of a fast-paced duet, like Mozart for still camera and video camera rather than violin and viola."
Eros Hoagland makes compelling use of Canon DSLR cameras and equipment in the exact way it was primarily intended: he shoots beautiful, if not haunting stills, and along the way, documents the conflict with high-definition video using the same camera.
Eros Hoagland began working as a photojournalist in 1993 covering the aftermath of El Salvador's civil war. His unique resumé includes assignments in many countries enveloped in violence and unrest around the world including Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti, Eritrea and Colombia. His unique ability to supply an emotional narrative to his projects using a combination of stills and video has turned his work into a journalistic art form.
- The pre-departure and on the ground preparation needed as a conflict journalist
- Camera equipment and gear he uses in his work
- Considerations for working in both mediums
- His post-production workflow from download to completion
Join us for an intriguing and informative evening at the Canon Hollywood Professional & Technology Center. Journalists, and storytellers, will gain a unique insight into the life and work of a documentary photojournalist who is often in precarious situations while creating and capturing distinctive and powerful stories both still and moving.
A Canon Technical representative will be on-site as well to answer any gear related questions you may have.
