Flash is one of the hottest topics among DSLR users, but for many, it's a bit of a hit or miss proposition. This session at Canon's downtown San Francisco showroom space is your opportunity to learn all about exposure control with flash, putting you in the driver's seat of getting the results you want and understanding when to step in and apply one or more of the E-TTL's numerous features. We take the time to go over each of these in-depth, such as Flash Exposure Lock, High-Speed Sync and Flash Exposure Compensation.
We begin with a clear explanation of flash in general and how Canon's E-TTL II flash metering really works. The foundation of this session is a simple one: if you fully understand how to control one Canon Speedlite, you're then ready to take that next step and master the art and craft of wireless E-TTL, with one or more flashes. No matter which Canon EOS DSLR camera you use, if you own a Canon Speedlite or are thinking about moving-up from the built-in flash and investing in one, tonight's class is an investment in your photography and a great way to get practical information you can put to use from Day One.
What you will learn:
- Basics of E-TTL flash
- When to use manual powered flash and how to set it up
- Where the buttons are and what each of them does
- The flash menu system (both on the Speedlite and flash controls from the camera’s menu)
- Flash exposure lock
- High-speed sync (what is it and when you should use it)
- How and why to use bounce flash
- When to use flash and when it’s appropriate to use natural light
