Have you ever dreamed of the chance to experience what it’s like to be in Africa on a photo safari? Join Rick Sammon for this exploration of wildlife photography in one of the coolest places to photograph animals in America: Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Photograph zebra, wildebeest, cheetahs, rhinos and giraffe in natural looking settings. Rick has been on African safaris three times and to Fossil Rim five times, and he will share his vast knowledge, tips and photographic skills personally with you. For a more in depth look at Fossil Rim visit their website: www.fossilrim.org
This photo workshop offers participants a 2-day immersion into wildlife photography in the field. You'll get instruction on how to capture striking animal portraits and get hands-on instruction on creating high-impact images in the digital darkroom. To maximize photo opportunities, we've scheduled private group game drives in open-sided vehicles.
We'll be based at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas, where more than 1,000 animals species live on the grounds of this 1,700-acre center. Participants will stay on site in either a safari-style tent or a room in the rustic lodge (cost of lodging is not included in the workshop price and based on double occupancy). All tents are located on a two acre fenced enclosure overlooking one of Fossil Rim’s most popular wildlife watering holes. You will wake up each morning to the view of various free-roaming animals, making for a true African safari experience!
We will kick off the workshop with a private dinner and presentation at the Safari Camp Pavilion. Each day will feature a private morning photo tour and field session with the animals, followed by classroom lecture, post-processing instruction and image critiques. As part of the workshop registration students are able to borrow L series lenses including a variety of long lenses, along with a selection of bodies like the new EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 5D Mark III and EOS-1D X to capture all the action. In their natural environment the animals are sure to provide you with plenty of inspiring photographs, and the Canon gear we will provide for students to learn and experiment with will only further enhance the experience.
Limited to only 14 participants, you will have plenty of one-on-one attention and support from Rick, and one of our highly skilled Canon Technical Specialists, who will help you in both the field and the classroom. You will also have the opportunity to submit your favorite images to the on-site technical representative, who will make one or two prints for you to take home from a Canon Pixma Pro Printer!
