You have posted your work on social media, entered your film in festivals – did you protect your work? Did you loose rights or perhaps you opened yourself to a possible lawsuit? Separate fact from fiction in this seminar that covers the basics of the U.S. Copyright Act, Fair Use, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Trademark law, and the Right of Publicity. Join CLA and local Art and Entertainment Law Attorney Heather D. Bennett, Esq. for an overview of the laws that relate to the independent filmmaker living in a digital world. Topics include: what is and is not protected by U.S. laws, how to take advantage of the protections they offer, how to avoid violating the rights of others, and how rights are transferred, transformed or transgressed.
Heather Bennett is an attorney in Los Angeles with a private practice in International Trademark, Copyright, and Right of Publicity litigation and licensing for filmmakers and photographers. She is also a documentary filmmaker and assists other documentary filmmakers with legal issues pertaining to fundraising, development including fair use analyses, and production.
