Nicola is best known for her work on the Oscar-winning documentary “Twenty Feet from Stardom”. Most recently she shot Chelsea Does, a 4 part documentary series for Netflix starring Chelsea Handler. It premiered at Sundance and was the template upon which much of her current weekly show is based, which she shoots on regularly.
On the narrative side, she lensed “Roadies”, a pilot for Showtime, directed by Cameron Crowe and produced by J.J. Abrams. She has also shot two other documentaries for Mr. Crowe: “Pearl Jam 20” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and “The Union” which opened the Tribeca Film Festival.
And in-between these projects she has shot a number of commercials for prolific Academy Award winning director, Lucy Walker.
Tonight Nicola will discuss how she traverses the narrative, documentary and commercial worlds using instinct, curiosity and the understanding of technology. She will share her insight on paring the technology with the project at hand, so not getting lost in the minutia. Nicola will discuss why she chose Canon EOS C700 as her A camera for Netflix new true crime documentary (untitled as of yet) and all her Canon based projects over the past 5 years.
