Canon’s tilt-shift series of lenses bring a unique set of capabilities to the table to solve these problems.
Back in 1991, Canon revolutionized the world of 35mm photography by introducing three tilt-shift (TS-E) lenses. Today, Canon has five of these lenses including the new 50mm f/2.8L Macro, 90mm f2.8L Macro and 135mm f/4L Macro. The 50mm and 90mm replace current lenses, while the 135mm is a new focal length to the tilt/shift lens lineup. All three of these new lenses feature macro focusing capability.
What makes Canon’s tilt-shift lenses special is summed up in their name. Now, DSLR users have lenses that can mimic the movements of the front standard of a view camera. These lenses not only can shift to retain proper perspective control or create shift panoramas, but can also tilt or swing to alter the plane of focus for increased depth-of-field or no depth-of-field (selective focus toy effect).
Once you understand the principals of how tilt-shift lenses work, you can free your mind and be as creative or technically accurate as you want with them.
Landscapes and architecture are the focus for this class. Taught by our resident tilt-shift expert, Dave Henry, will teach you how to work with this style of lens so that you’ll have a great deal of confidence using one out in the field.
