The Canon Device Management Console allows you to manage multiple printers within a network. With this simple software tool, you can check printer status, supply levels, paper types, and calibration information for your Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 series printer.
To launch the Device Management Console on a Mac®, navigate to Applications > Canon Utilities > Device Management Console. If you are using Windows®, go to the Start Menu > All Programs > Canon Utilities > Device Management Console.
Click the Settings button in the upper left corner of the Printer Status Window to launch the Printer Management window. Here you can Add or Unregister a printer, rename your printer under the Advanced Settings, and Import or Export your printer settings for easy backup and retrieval.
The Printer Status menu communicates the status of all compatible printers at a glance, showing you the printer names, device connections, any warnings or errors, and status information, such as if the printer is printing or offline. Here is a list of compatible printers:

When you have selected a specific printer, you can click on the Printer Information button in the lower right of the window to see detailed information on the amount of ink available in each color, the maintenance cartridge usage, and the strength of the printer’s Wi-Fi® connection. You can also conveniently order ink for your printer here. And, you can select the Info icon in the upper left corner of the screen to open the Printer Details window.
The Calibration window of the Device Management Console allows you to manage and initialize calibrations for your printer over your network. To get started, select your printer in the vertical pane on the left side of the window. Once the printer is selected, choose the media type that you would like to calibrate. The status window will then display information about the most recent calibration, including the date and the paper type that was calibrated.
The Calibration Advisability bar below the status window indicates whether a new calibration is recommended at this time. If the bar is green, calibration is not needed. If it is yellow, try to schedule a calibration when you can. If the bar is red, you should calibrate before printing to ensure accurate color in your prints.
Filter your calibration information to Custom Papers, Calibrated Papers (papers that have a custom calibration as opposed to the normal calibration) or All Papers. You can also highlight a specific paper and click the Paper Status button in the lower right corner of the pane to launch the Paper Status window.
If calibration is recommended, click the Calibration button to the right of the status window to initialize the process. For more information on the calibration process, see the accompanying article: Using the Color Calibration Tool for Consistent Results.
Once you have initiated a calibration, click the Calibration Monitor button in the lower right corner of the window to launch the Calibration Monitor. This window will keep you updated on the calibration process, which will take about 10 minutes from start to finish. When your calibration is complete, click the refresh button above the list of media types to see the updated calibration information for your papers.
The Device Management Console is a powerful tool that can enable you to manage up to 50 printers remotely with consistent results—allowing you to access printers at different locations, as long as you are on the same network. Using the Printer Status information can help you to ensure that paper types and printer settings are the same throughout your network, and that your printers are running in optimal condition. The Calibration functions will help you ensure that your color is accurate throughout your network.
