Canon's new EOS 5D Mark III continues the EOS 5D series tradition of a full set of professional features, along with the image quality of a full-frame CMOS sensor (now 22.1MP), in a relatively compact and user-friendly camera body. AF is radically improved, with the new 61-point, High Density Reticular AF system first seen in the top-of-the-line EOS-1D X. Maximum shooting speed is now 6 fps, making it a legitimate alternative to 1D-series cameras for sports and other high-performance shooting. Numerous improvements to its HD Video have also been made, including a socket for monitoring audio with a headset.

  • Faster and more responsive, with less shutter lag time – very similar to EOS 7D in control layout, design, and tactile "feel"
  • Approx. 2-stop improvement in high-ISO noise reduction vs. EOS 5D Mark II; ISO range 100-25,600; can be expanded to (equivalent) ISO 50-102,400
  • Superior image quality, and in-camera controls such as Multiple Exposures and HDR mode
  • Significant HD video enhancements: Superior control of noise, moire and color artifacts; Choice of ALL-I or IPB video compression types; Continuous recording now possible to nearly 30 minutes; Time Code embedding; Audio enhancements including silent adjustment of exposure and audio levels during recording
